BlockBeats news, on July 24, the World Foundation, the nonprofit organization behind the World protocol, announced that it has raised $52.5 million in new funding through a strategic sale of WLD tokens, with all tokens to be locked for one year.
The initial token sale round was led by Pantera Capital, with other investors including Bain Capital Crypto, Eightco Holdings (the fund management company for WLD), Selini Capital, and Susquehanna Crypto. It is currently unclear whether the foundation plans to conduct additional token sales after the initial round.
The foundation stated that the WLD tokens sold in this transaction "are intended for use within the World Network and do not represent any ownership, profit, or return rights." The spokesperson clarified that this means investors purchasing WLD do not acquire equity in "Tools for Humanity," the for-profit company behind the World Network.
