- Crypto market maker Wintermute has obtained broker-dealer registration in the United States.
- The license clears the way for the company to operate on the NYSE and Nasdaq as a market maker.
- Wintermute plans to expand into ETFs, commodities, and tokenized equities.
The US arm of crypto market maker Wintermute has registered as a broker-dealer in the United States. This will allow the company to operate on regulated equity markets and expand its footprint in traditional finance. WSJ reports.
The Company Plans to Enter the NYSE and Nasdaq
The registration gives Wintermute USA the ability to apply for designated market maker status on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) and Nasdaq. The company will also fall under the oversight of the SEC and FINRA.
According to Wintermute CEO Evgeny Gayovoy, the company plans to begin trading assets adjacent to the crypto industry, including commodities and exchange-traded funds (ETFs) tied to digital assets.
In addition, Wintermute intends to work with tokenized equities once an appropriate regulatory framework emerges in the United States.
“This is part of our strategy — to be ready for any possible future scenarios. We are already present on all centralized and decentralized exchanges. Broker-dealer status opens up new opportunities,” Gayovoy said.
Wintermute Wants to Compete With the Largest Market Makers
Gayovoy noted that in 2025 the company facilitated $3.5 trillion in trading volume, and its current average daily figure is around $10 billion. The firm operates on more than 60 trading venues, including CME and Uniswap.
At the same time, Wintermute USA is already working with issuers of crypto ETFs and expects to compete over the next three to five years with major market makers such as Jane Street, Citadel Securities, and Jump Trading.
Recall that in late May 2026, Wintermute began providing two-sided liquidity on prediction market platforms.
