Whirlpool shares fell 9.04% to $24.06 in Tuesday premarket trading after third-quarter results missed expectations and the company cut 2026 guidance below analyst estimates. Benzinga Pro data showed Whirlpool shares trading at a new 52-week low. Whirlpool reported an adjusted loss of 21 cents per share, against analysts' consensus forecast of earnings of 80 cents per share. Revenue decreased 8.8% year over year to $3,677 million, below the analyst consensus estimate of $3,920 million. Organic net sales fell 5.4% from a year earlier.
Whirlpool reduced expected full-year 2026 adjusted earnings from a profit of $2.50 to $3 per share to a loss of $1.30 per share. The revised forecast was below analysts' consensus estimate of earnings of $1.55 per share. Whirlpool cut expected annual sales from $15 billion to $14.5 billion, below the analyst consensus forecast of $14,824 million. Whirlpool expects operating cash flow of approximately $700 million. Whirlpool expects free cash flow of $300 million.
However, Whirlpool reported quarter-over-quarter operational progress despite the disappointing results, supported by higher prices and cost reductions amid difficult macroeconomic conditions. Whirlpool kept working capital under tight control to strengthen the company's balance sheet and support full-year cash flow targets. Whirlpool reduced expected year-end net debt from less than $5 billion to less than $4.5 billion. Chief Financial Officer Roxanne Warner said Whirlpool expects net debt below $4.5 billion at year-end 2026. Whirlpool also maintained a clearly defined schedule of debt maturities through 2028.
North American major domestic appliance sales fell 8.2% year over year, excluding currency effects, because industry demand was weak. The North American EBIT margin improved from the preceding quarter because of higher prices and structural cost reductions. Higher raw material, fuel and logistics costs partly offset those benefits. Whirlpool announced a 7% North American price increase for the fourth quarter, supported by product innovation.
Latin American major domestic appliance sales rose 2.5% year over year, excluding currency effects, because volumes increased. Changes in product mix after Grupo Casas Bahia's bankruptcy reorganization pressured the Latin American EBIT margin. Whirlpool announced Latin American price increases of up to 10%. Whirlpool plans the fourth-quarter price increases across the company's major domestic appliance businesses to support the revised outlook.
Global small domestic appliance sales decreased 0.9% year over year, excluding currency effects. Strong third-quarter retail sales and changes in order timing helped increase U.S. orders for October by approximately 40% year over year. The small domestic appliance segment achieved strong EBIT margins. Product innovation and direct-to-consumer sales supported the segment's worldwide market share gains.
