Huo Xing Finance reports that Vitalik Buterin (@VitalikButerin) posted that the ideal path to support diverse cryptographic algorithms is through EIP-8288: users generate arbitrary signatures locally, prove them via STARK, and submit them to the chain through a STARK aggregator, eliminating the need for calldata on-chain and thus removing the necessity for Ethereum to add new precompiles. He also noted that if lattice-based cryptography is proven secure against AI attacks, it could still be integrated via precompiles in the future for use cases such as accounts and wallets. Previously, Starknet co-founder Eli Ben-Sasson opposed a16z’s views, arguing that lattice-based cryptography has rich mathematical structures vulnerable to AI attacks, and that the simplified versions based on module SIS have only existed since 2012 and lack sufficient maturity; he recommended waiting another 3–5 years for AI to thoroughly test these systems before using them to custody large assets.
Vitalik Proposes EIP-8288 to Support Multiple Signature Algorithms on Ethereum

Ethereum news: Vitalik Buterin proposes EIP-8288 to expand support for multiple signature algorithms. The upgrade would enable users to generate signatures locally and submit STARK proofs through an aggregator, eliminating the need for new precompiles. Buterin also notes that lattice-based cryptography could still be utilized in accounts if it proves secure against AI-based attacks. Starknet’s Eli Ben-Sasson previously criticized a16z’s position on lattice cryptography, citing AI risks and low maturity.
