Ethereum news broke on August 10, 2026, as Vitalik Buterin shared a revised technical roadmap for 2023. Privacy protection is now a top priority, with new goals including post-quantum scaling, protocol simplification for formal verification, and block and gas futures. The plan also encompasses high-load mechanisms for token transfers and privacy protocols, along with STARK and AI-accelerated verification across all layers. Top altcoin news highlights this major shift in Ethereum’s development focus.

ChainThink reports that on August 10, Vitalik Buterin stated that his 2023 Ethereum roadmap has a high overall alignment with the current Strawmap roadmap, though the priority of some items has been adjusted.

Priority has been increased for quantum security and related areas, while priority has been lowered for VDF, multiple EVM improvements, and some proposals have been replaced by superior alternatives.

Vitalik noted that the current roadmap includes several new directions not addressed in 2023, with strong privacy protection being elevated to a top priority for the first time.

In addition, the new direction includes advancing aggressive scaling in a post-quantum context, simplifying protocol specifications to aid formal verification, introducing block and gas futures, incorporating native Rollups, and opening up more design space for "the future of EVM."

He also noted that the roadmap changes reflect two common themes: first, the scaling approach has shifted from maximizing overall capacity to building specialized mechanisms for high-load scenarios such as token transfers and privacy protocols;

Second, STARK-based formal verification accelerated by AI will become a core component of the protocol layer and be applied recursively across the execution, consensus, and data layers.
