Citing Odaily, Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin stated on X that occasional loss of finality is acceptable, as it ensures blocks are not rolled back. He noted that if finality is delayed for several hours due to major client errors, the chain can still operate normally as long as incorrect blocks are not finalized. Computer science Ph.D. Fabrizio Romano Genovese agreed, explaining that Ethereum becomes more like Bitcoin during such periods. Polygon's spokesperson added that the lack of finality may affect infrastructure like cross-chain bridges and Layer2 solutions, but Polygon will continue to function normally, albeit with potential delays in transfers and transactions until finality is restored.
