VVV reached an all-time high of $29.19 on September 9, surging over 40% in 24 hours and surpassing a $1.2 billion market cap. The immediate catalyst was NEAR Protocol’s announcement of an integration with Venice to create a "privacy AI + DeFi闭环" ecosystem; however, the underlying driver of this surge is the revenue-repurchase-burn mechanism Venice has systematically built over the past 12 months.
In a crypto market flooded with "AI narratives" lacking revenue backing, Venice is one of the few projects that can present verifiable revenue data.
Erik Voorhees announced on August 17 that the platform’s annualized revenue had surpassed $100 million, just six weeks after disclosing $70 million in revenue at the time of its July Series A financing. This $65 million round, led by Dragonfly and joined by Coinbase Ventures, valued the company at $1 billion.
These numbers make VVV appear to be a scarce asset in the AI sector. But after the surge, the core question that needs a calm answer is: Can Venice’s revenue-driven buyback and burn outpace token emissions?
Buyback and Burn Mechanism: From Financial Operation to On-Chain Automation
The token burn for Venice runs along three separate tracks.
One is a monthly discretionary buyback. Starting in December 2025, Venice will use a portion of platform revenue each month to purchase VVV at market price from Aerodrome (a DEX on the Base chain) and send it to a burn address. Since its launch, the amount has increased monthly, with the most recent purchase (September 9) totaling approximately $391,000. To date, cumulative monthly buybacks have burned approximately 217,000 VVV.
One is a subscription-triggered burn.
Starting in April 2026, each new paid subscription will automatically trigger a VVV buyback and burn: $2 for Pro tier, $5 for Pro Plus tier, and $10 for Max tier. Note that "automatically" and "new subscription" are key terms; renewals will not trigger a burn at this time, as mentioned by Venice during the community call on July 22 as a future trigger.
The third point is API quota purchase and burn. Starting July 17, 2026, for every $100 spent by users on API quotas (including developer calls), $5 will be automatically used to purchase and burn VVV, directly linking platform usage to token burns.
Combined, Venice has returned approximately $905,000 in value to token holders by 2026. In addition, upon the closure of the airdrop window in March 2025, 32.5 million unclaimed tokens and approximately 1 million team-repurchased tokens were permanently burned, resulting in a total of about 33.72 million VVV burned to on-chain burn addresses—equivalent to approximately 42.3% of the effective circulating supply.
Emission Schedule: From 14 million to 2 million
Burn is only half the equation; the other half is the rate of new token inflow.
The annual emission rate of VVV at its TGE in January 2025 is 14 million. Venice will implement a systematic reduction starting March 2026, with a monthly decrease:
Reduced to 6 million before June, to 5 million on May 1, to 4 million on June 1, and to 3 million on July 1. The most recent step, implemented on September 1, lowered emissions to 2.5 million, with a further reduction to 2 million on October 1.
Emissions have been reduced by approximately 86%, from 14 million to 2 million. Additionally, 100% of emissions are allocated as rewards to stakers, with no team unlocks absorbing emissions and no foundation grants dripping into the market.
Putting both sides together: At the current emission rate of approximately 2 million to 2.5 million VVV per year and a price of around $25 per VVV, the annual emission corresponds to a market selling pressure of approximately $50 million to $62.5 million. For Venice to fulfill its promise of "net deflation," the amount spent on buybacks and burns must exceed this figure.
Based on an annualized revenue of $100 million, a 5% API fee burn equates to approximately $5 million in automatic destruction per year, plus subscription-triggered and monthly discretionary buybacks; however, the total cumulative returns by 2026 amounted to only $905,000. Even assuming buyback amounts grow in line with revenue, the current burn rate remains far below the dilution pressure caused by emissions.
Achieving net deflation requires either a further leap in revenue scale or a significant increase in the buyback ratio; reducing emissions alone is insufficient.
DIEM: Turn AI computing power into a tradable perpetual asset
The most imaginative aspect of VVV's tokenomics is DIEM.
Each DIEM represents one dollar per day of Venice API credit, valid permanently. DIEMs are minted by locking staked VVV (sVVV). During the lock-up period, stakers still receive 80% of the normal yield, with the remaining 20% going to Venice. DIEMs can be traded on Aerodrome or destroyed at any time to unlock the original sVVV.
This design transforms AI reasoning capability from a pay-per-use model to a share-based ownership model. If you hold 10 DIEM tokens, you have $10 in daily API credits available, regardless of how the market price of VVV fluctuates.
Erik Voorhees compares DIEM’s logic to a 30-year mortgage: when a resource—AI inference computing power—becomes sufficiently important, locking in long-term access at a fixed cost becomes economically rational, much like power purchase agreements, jet fuel hedging, and fixed-rate mortgages.
The supply cap of DIEM is being gradually increased and is expected to rise to 40,000 on September 14. Its rate of expansion directly depends on the locking willingness of VVV holders, which in turn depends on their assessment of Venice platform’s ongoing operational capability.
For AI Agent developers, DIEM could be a more practical infrastructure component. An on-chain autonomous agent can hold DIEM to secure a stable supply of inference capabilities, eliminating the need to repeatedly purchase API credits or maintain credit card payment channels. Venice’s documentation already outlines the complete process by which an agent’s wallet automatically retrieves API keys.
NEAR Integration: The Missing Piece in Privacy AI Infrastructure
The integration announcement posted by NEAR Protocol on X on September 8 was the direct catalyst for VVV's surge. The integration includes: users can privately purchase VVV via the NEAR network and stake it to gain access to Venice Pro, with Venice’s end-to-end encryption running on NEAR AI Cloud.
NEAR’s role is to complete the final piece of Venice’s privacy infrastructure. Venice already ensures that user data is not stored and processes inference requests using TEE (Trusted Execution Environment) and end-to-end encryption. NEAR AI Cloud provides the underlying layer of encrypted computation.
However, it must be clear that this integration is currently primarily reflected at the announcement level. Actual VVV trading volume on NEAR, real invocation data for privacy purchases, and the scale of Venice inference requests processed by NEAR AI Cloud all require ongoing on-chain data verification.
A single tweet driving a 40% surge indicates that market appetite for catalysts has surpassed caution toward fundamentals.
Risk checklist investors need to monitor
Venice has achieved what many AI tokens have not: revenue, a product, users, and verifiable on-chain burns—but these structural risks cannot be ignored:
The VVV contract includes an owner-only mint function. There is no on-chain hard cap on supply, and the emission schedule is entirely determined by Venice. VVV is a purely functional token, and holders have no governance voting rights.
Token concentration is extremely high. The top 100 holders control approximately 98% of the supply. The team allocation accounts for 10% (vested over 24 months), and company operations account for 25% (no public vesting schedule).
Annualized revenue is a "run rate," not an audited figure. $100 million in annualized revenue is an extrapolation based on a short-term window and does not equal recognized annual revenue. Venice is not obligated to disclose its revenue composition or undergo independent auditing.
The emission yield paradox: Although 100% of emissions are allocated to stakers, the sharp decline in emissions from 14 million to 2 million has caused a corresponding drop in staking APY. When yields lose their appeal, stakers must rely on price appreciation to compensate, shifting the investment logic from "yield-based investing" to directional speculation.
VVV has risen from a low of $0.92 to $29 over the past year, increasing more than 30-fold. The current valuation has fully priced in expectations for revenue growth, emission reductions, and integration with NEAR.
The future direction of VVV will be determined by several measurable, trackable metrics: whether the monthly buyback and burn amount can consistently exceed monthly emissions (approximately $4.2 to $5.2 million per month at current prices); whether DIEM minting volumes and actual usage can validate genuine demand for on-chain computational power ownership by AI agents; and whether the $100 million in annualized revenue can be confirmed as sustained growth in upcoming quarters, rather than a one-time spike.
Venice is attempting to answer an age-old question in the crypto world: Can tokens evolve from speculative tools into productive factors? DIEM’s perpetual tokenization of AI inference compute is an elegant design, but even elegant designs need compelling numbers to back them up.
In a market where AI tokens generally have concepts but no revenue, Venice at least provides a calculable framework—the rest is just mathematics.
