- Matthew Siegel of VanEck stated that a price of $1 million for Bitcoin within five years is currently the company’s “base case.”
- Adoption by institutional investors, purchases by sovereign nations, and ETF fund inflows are reshaping Bitcoin’s long-term outlook.
- Within the same week, several key industry figures made similar $1 million predictions.
BTC price predictions always sound absurd until they no longer do.
A few years ago, $100,000 for Bitcoin seemed absurd to most investors. Today, major asset management firms openly discuss a $1 million target on mainstream financial TV channels without hesitation.
This week, VanEck’s Head of Digital Assets Research, Matthew Siegel, stated clearly that a $1 million valuation for Bitcoin in the coming years is his “base case.”
The shift in tone is more important than the numbers.
While the actual price targets are impressive, the more significant shift is that major institutions are gaining confidence in Bitcoin’s long-term adoption trajectory.
Siegel did not present this argument as some fanciful speculation, but rather as the expected outcome if current adoption trends continue. This is markedly different from previous arguments.
The contrast effect of video games is surprisingly good.
One of the more interesting parts of Siegel's argument is his comparison of Bitcoin adoption with the gambling industry.
Decades ago, gaming was considered a niche hobby. Today, it has become integrated into the mainstream lives of nearly everyone, including billionaires, athletes, and multinational corporations.
His view is: Technology often seems unimportant in its early stages, but eventually becomes standard infrastructure.
Sovereign buying has changed the landscape
More macro structural arguments center on sovereignty and institutional participation.
As the central bank and government of Sigel begin to consider the fact of Bitcoin reserves, this would significantly alter the long-term fundamentals of assets, creating a demand floor distinct from mere retail speculation.
As countries begin to accumulate Bitcoin, its behavior is increasingly resembling a strategic monetary infrastructure rather than an边缘技术实验.
ETF fund flows continue to reinforce this trend
Institutional data also supports some of these arguments. Spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted billions of dollars in inflows just in April, one of the strongest inflow periods since the end of 2025.
This flow of capital is crucial because ETFs provide access to bitcoin for a large number of investors who previously avoided direct investment in cryptocurrency due to custody and exchange risks.
A $1 million prediction is no longer an isolated case
Notably, many prominent figures made similar predictions almost simultaneously.
Bitwise CIO Matt Hougan recently publicly stated the same goal, and within days, this prediction was validated by Eric Trump. Regardless of whether people agree with this figure, the claim itself is clearly gaining deeper traction within the establishment.
Volatility remains part of the story.
Even Siegel admits that this path will likely still be very turbulent.
A 12-fold increase from current levels is not achieved overnight, especially for assets still heavily impacted by macroeconomic conditions, regulation, liquidity cycles, and geopolitical events.
Even during a long-term bull market, Bitcoin can still experience sharp pullbacks.
The bigger shift is psychological.
Perhaps the most significant change is that as Bitcoin's adoption increases, its price ceiling continues to rise.
What once seemed impossible becomes mathematically plausible as institutions, sovereign funds, pension systems, and wealth managers begin to view assets as permanent infrastructure rather than speculative novelties.
This does not guarantee that Bitcoin will reach $1 million within five years. But the fact that mainstream asset management firms now view this possibility as realistic demonstrates how dramatically market perceptions of Bitcoin have shifted.
