Professional operators can now test USDT on the Bitcoin network and prepare for integration ahead of the public launch in November.
Utexo has launched Utexo Mint, a dedicated platform for institutions preparing to support and offer Bitcoin-based USDT. The public launch is scheduled for November 28.
According to a press release shared with Bitcoin Magazine, the return of USDT creates opportunities to bring dollar liquidity into the Bitcoin ecosystem and opens up new markets such as trading and BTC-collateralized lending. The press release states that operators who complete integration ahead of schedule are poised to be the first to offer USDT for Bitcoin, “capturing initial demand and establishing market share as adoption grows.”
Utexo stated that existing partners are already preparing for the launch. The company is currently opening access to exchanges, wallets, market makers, over-the-counter desks, trading firms, and other professional entities interested in supporting the Bitcoin version of USDT.
Utexo Mint
Utexo Mint is a dedicated platform for verified operators to mint and redeem USDT on the Bitcoin network.
In its sandbox environment, operators can test how USDT operates on Bitcoin via RGB, including "minting, confidential transfers, and redemption." This testing period will give operators time to verify their transaction workflows and complete integration before going live.
Utexo also stated that it will provide tools to manage USDT liquidity across supported networks and enable conversions between fiat currencies and USDT, giving operators greater flexibility in sourcing and allocating funds. Utexo further noted that, although Utexo Mint is not owned or operated by Tether, the Bitcoin version of USDT is still backed by USDT via Tether’s USDT0 protocol.
Bring USDT back to Bitcoin
USDT is returning to Bitcoin. It was first launched on Bitcoin in 2014. The report states that this will bring deep stablecoin liquidity into the ecosystem and expand use cases for businesses on the network. The company clarified that the Bitcoin version of USDT was launched by Utexo, not by Tether.
The press release states that the Bitcoin version of USDT will be “designed with privacy at its core,” allowing individuals to hold and transfer funds without publicly exposing their transaction details. Regarding several technical differences between its Bitcoin implementation and EVM blockchain versions, the press release notes that the RGB-based USDT avoids address reuse—considered the worst privacy practice, which could even expose holders to risks from quantum computers.
Regarding compliance, the press release states that businesses will be able to maintain the controls necessary for regulatory compliance while protecting sensitive business activities. On how Utexo integrates both privacy and compliance with sanctions and law enforcement requirements as product features, Utexo told Bitcoin Magazine: “We monitor all incoming USDT sources and check AML scores; we also monitor risks on the RGB side. We have partnered with Crystal Intelligence for AML purposes.”
This promotion will be conducted in two phases. The first phase begins on November 28, at which point USDT will be made publicly available on the Bitcoin network via RGB. Upon launch, users will be able to use this product through partnered wallets and exchanges, bringing new liquidity to exchange service providers and lending platforms.
According to Utexo, the second phase is scheduled for the first quarter of 2027, during which USDT will be extended to the Lightning Network for payments.
