David Woodcock, head of the SEC’s Enforcement Division, said the new unit will enhance the SEC’s ability to combat misconduct in the accounting and auditing industries, with a focus on financial fraud cases and related securities law violations. The unit will consist of attorneys and accounting professionals and will collaborate with other SEC divisions to conduct investigations and enforcement actions.


The SEC stated that the new department will be led by Timothy Zimmerman. Zimmerman joined the SEC in May 2026, after spending 12 years at an international law firm, most recently serving as Deputy General Counsel at an international accounting and professional services firm.
