IT Home, November 6: The Quantum Science Center at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy, announced on the 5th locally that it has partnered with IBM and AMD to launch a new quantum error correction co-design platform.

The platform's initial deployment integrates IBM's quantum computer with Oak Ridge Laboratory's HPC system based on AMD CPUs and GPUs. AMD's hardware provides the classical computing foundation for quantum error correction, decoding optimization, and software orchestration.

Researchers can evaluate the tight integration of classical and quantum computing on this collaborative design platform to advance quantum error correction research, accelerate the growth of fault-tolerant quantum computing "hard operations," and achieve the goal of running 100 logical qubits for 100,000 "hard operations" by the end of 2028.
