Key Insights:
- The US Department of Commerce uses Chainlink to publish economic data.
- The US federal agency has been distributing official economic data onchain since 2025 through the oracle network.
- Chainlink’s position as onchain data infrastructure provider continues to grow as LINK maintains stable performance.
The U.S. Department of Commerce continues publishing selected economic data on public blockchains through Chainlink infrastructure.
Chainlink highlighted the initiative again on Sept. 1, but the deployment originally began in August 2025. The data comes from the Bureau of Economic Analysis and is distributed through Chainlink Data Feeds for use by blockchain applications.
The program gives smart contracts access to official U.S. macroeconomic statistics without relying on manually entered data. Chainlink has cited potential uses in prediction markets, automated strategies, tokenized products, and DeFi risk management.
US Economic Data Live on Public Blockchains
Based on the partnership, government macroeconomic data becomes available as data points on public blockchain networks. Chainlink enables this by launching six data feeds.
The data feeds connect to the BEA data source to provide accurate information on three economic metrics, measuring their level and percentage changes.
The metrics are Real Gross Domestic Product (GDP), Personal Consumption Expenditures (PCE) Price Index, and Real Final Sales to Private Domestic Purchasers.
According to Chainlink, the datasets are available on ten blockchain networks, including Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, Avalanche, and Optimism. Mantle, Sonic, Linea, ZkSync, and Botanx. The datasets are updated periodically, either monthly or quarterly, as applicable.
With macroeconomic metrics available onchain, Chainlink believes it unlocks massive opportunities for blockchain-based markets. It highlighted use cases such as automated trading strategies, real-time prediction markets, and risk management for DeFi protocols.
Chainlink Deepens Position as Blockchain Leading Data Provider
Meanwhile, Chainlink’s partnership with the Commerce Department highlights the oracle network’s collaboration with the US government. According to the network, it has engaged with several regulators and officials on policies to enable growth in the blockchain industry.
However, it also reflects a broader adoption of the oracle network as the data provider for the onchain ecosystem. Chainlink has over 2,400 integrations, according to its own report, with leading DeFi protocols such as Aave, Lido, and Compound all using it.

More recently, Coinbase tapped Chainlink data infrastructure for its tokenized stocks on the Base network. This effectively means Chainlink price feeds power the tokenized stocks onchain and enable their use across DeFi protocols.
Unsurprisingly, the adoption has had a generally positive impact on Chainlink’s LINK. Currently trading at $11.22, LINK is down 2% over the last 24 hours amid a broader market decline today, but remains up 35% over the last 30 days.
