ChainCatcher report: The decentralized exchange protocol Uniswap has launched the VolatilePair Hook on the Ethereum mainnet, with the first trading pair being ETH/USDC. This is a dynamic fee hook for liquidity providers on Uniswap v4, where fees adjust dynamically according to market conditions. Uniswap states that trading volume for volatile pairs on its platform exceeded $50 billion this year. Unlike stablecoin pairs, these assets lack fixed prices, and under static fee structures, liquidity providers bear the risk of price movements not covered by fees. The Hook recalculates buy and sell fees individually for each trade based on recent price movements, maintaining a competitive spread. When the pool price rises, buying costs increase and selling costs decrease; when the price falls, the fee direction reverses. After significant price movements, trades that push the price back toward equilibrium will pay a temporary fee. Pool parameters and fee logic can be upgraded via Uniswap governance without requiring liquidity migration. The StablePair Hook, launched in September, introduced dynamic fees for stablecoin pairs, generating $3.1 billion in trading volume across related pools within four weeks. The VolatilePair Hook, along with StablePair, Permissioned Pools, and LitePSM, is part of the suite of Hooks introduced by Uniswap Labs.
