On the evening of July 30, Uniswap, the leading DEX (decentralized exchange), joined the rally alongside AI stocks, with UNI price climbing above the $4 mark, rising over 10% in a single day and extending its weekly gain to more than 17%, dispelling the consolidation gloom of the past three months.

The direct driver comes from the Fee Switch. On July 27, the Fee Switch was officially activated on Uniswap V4, triggering explosive growth in the protocol’s total network revenue: daily revenue surged from $118,000 in early July to $318,000, an increase of approximately 2.7 times. Notably, the Robinhood Chain alone contributed an average of $168,000 per day, accounting for half of the protocol’s total network revenue.
Accompanying the surge in revenue was a strong wave of UNI token burns, with daily burn volume reaching 106,000 tokens and previously hitting a record high of 186,000 tokens. Beneath this festive surface, ongoing debates and concerns are emerging over the foundation of traffic, sustainable growth, and the interests of liquidity providers (LPs).
The wheel is turning; Robinhood Chain becomes Uniswap's largest "money printer"
In traditional DEX fee mechanisms, transaction fees either flow entirely to LPs or are collected by the frontend operator, with the protocol layer capturing almost no value. By the end of 2025, Uniswap introduced a comprehensive governance proposal called UNIfication, establishing a programmatic fee distribution model through the implementation of a TokenJar pool and a Firepit burn contract.
In simple terms, TokenJar is like a transparent piggy bank that only accepts deposits—protocol fees continuously accumulate inside, but no one can withdraw funds directly. The only way to “open” the jar is to prove to the system that you’ve burned a corresponding amount of UNI tokens.
This creates an arbitrage opportunity: when the value of fees inside the vault exceeds the cost of purchasing and burning UNI, arbitrageurs (such as MEV bots) will automatically buy UNI on the market and burn it to unlock the fees in the vault, profiting from the price difference.
The entire process operates without human intervention, fully driven by on-chain economic incentives, creating a positive feedback loop: “trades generate fees → arbitrageurs repurchase and burn UNI → circulating supply decreases → token value increases.”
After the fee switch was activated, the currently trending Robinhood Chain has replaced the Ethereum mainnet as the primary hub for Uniswap to capture protocol fees and serves as the most critical catalyst for the UNI deflationary trend.

As a Layer 2 network built on Arbitrum Orbit, Robinhood Chain has carried the prestige of a major fintech giant since its mainnet launch on July 1. With gas fee subsidies and deep integration of Web2 user on-ramps, it has attracted massive capital inflows. According to DeFiLlama, within just one week of deploying the Uniswap V2, V3, and V4 protocols, the chain’s total cumulative trading volume surged past $6 billion.

When the fee switch is enabled on Robinhood Chain, massive transaction volumes are converted into tangible protocol revenue, contributing over 52% of Uniswap’s daily average protocol income, making it Uniswap’s largest revenue source and a strong buyer of UNI.
Beneath the狂欢 lie multiple concerns: Meme bubbles, inflated valuations, and protocol taxation.
However, Uniswap’s highly concentrated revenue structure means that the rate of UNI burns will be closely tied to the traffic fluctuations on a single chain.
The "traffic core" of Robinhood Chain is far more fragile than it appears on the surface.
According to Oak Research, over 99% of the trading volume generated on Robinhood Chain since its launch has been driven by speculation around meme coins such as CASHCAT.
A greater challenge will arrive in late September.
Currently, Robinhood Chain’s high transaction volume is supported by official gas fee subsidies. Once these subsidies expire in late September and on-chain interactions resume their true costs, meme coin speculation driven by automated scripts and high-frequency trading is likely to cool significantly.
In simple terms, today, speculative and highly volatile meme coins drive half of Uniswap’s revenue, rather than transactions involving stable, real-world assets. Although Uniswap announced yesterday (July 30) the test launch of its Launches feature on Robinhood Chain, aimed at aggregating popular token launches and providing distribution channels, this does not alter the underlying weakness in the protocol’s recent traffic structure.
Moreover, the market has already priced in extremely high growth expectations for UNI. From a valuation perspective, Uniswap’s fully diluted valuation (FDV) of approximately $4 billion corresponds to annualized earnings of about $41 million, resulting in an implied P/E ratio nearing 100x. If earnings growth falls short of expectations, the high valuation could face downward pressure.
And the most heated debate centers on whether the protocol's tax comes at the expense of LPs' interests.
Alexander Cutler, co-founder of direct competitor Aerodrome, pointed out that the fee switch essentially forces a reallocation of the existing pie by the protocol. After activating the fee switch on Uniswap V2 and V3 concentrated liquidity pools, up to 25% of LPs’ original earnings were effectively diverted; under the V4 architecture, liquidity interactions are effectively taxed at up to 33%.
In response to market concerns, Uniswap founder Hayden Adams published a post clarifying that Uniswap V4’s protocol fees are implemented on an additive basis, not a deductive one. Existing liquidity provider (LP) fee tiers will not be reduced in any way; protocol fees are an additional charge imposed on traders on top of these rates, and LPs’ earnings remain unaffected.
Mathematically, Adams is correct; but economically, the question remains unresolved: will an increase in total trading fees raise traders' costs, thereby suppressing trading volume and ultimately indirectly reducing LPs' actual realized returns? This puzzle still requires longer-term market data to validate.
Even so, Uniswap delivered an impressive commercial debut—but whether it can turn this debut into a sustainable norm depends on its ability to expand into on-chain use cases with long-term value.
