Unichain, the Layer 2 network of Uniswap, is undergoing a network upgrade by migrating to Optimism’s OP Enterprise stack. Optimism now handles production operations while preserving the chain’s user-facing state. The testnet transition started October 13, with mainnet going live October 29. This on-chain news marks a shift toward native interoperability across the OP Stack, enabling ETH to move between chains without a bridge. Users will see no changes in chain ID, contracts, or apps. Developers have two weeks on testnet to validate tools ahead of the mainnet switch.

Uniswap’s Layer 2 network Unichain is moving to Optimism’s OP Enterprise stack, handing production operations to Optimism while leaving the chain’s user-facing state intact. The testnet migrates on October 13 and the mainnet follows on October 29, according to the Uniswap announcement.

For anyone using the network, the switch is designed to be invisible. Unichain’s chain ID, deployed contracts, balances, and applications all stay the same, and the Uniswap v2, v3, and v4 deployments continue to run without interruption. The migration adds to a busy stretch of Uniswap protocol work, which recently included a StablePair hook for stablecoin pairs.

Why Unichain Is Moving to OP Enterprise

The upgrade prepares Unichain for native interoperability across the OP Stack, the modular framework developed by Optimism. Once interoperability is live, assets can move between Unichain and other OP Stack chains without a bridge, starting with ETH. Moving onto OP Enterprise also gives Unichain first access to native interoperability and OP Stack releases as Optimism ships them.

On the operations side, Optimism will run the production stack: sequencers on mainnet and testnet, RPC access, monitoring, and incident response. Unichain remains a Stage 1 rollup with permissionless fault proofs, and contract upgrades stay under Optimism Governance and the Security Council, as they do today.

What Stays the Same for Users

Uniswap is explicit that “for Unichain users, nothing changes.” Wallets keep addressing the same chain ID, so no reconfiguration is needed, and existing balances, contracts, and applications remain in place.

What shifts is the infrastructure behind the chain. The sequencer, which orders transactions into blocks, is the most consequential operational lever on a Layer 2, and it now sits with Optimism alongside RPC and incident response. The main user-facing benefit, bridge-free asset movement, arrives only after interoperability ships and applies to ETH first.

What Happens Next

The October 13 testnet migration gives developers roughly two weeks to validate tooling and contracts before the mainnet moves on October 29. Unichain users should expect no downtime or required action, and the first visible change will come later as native interoperability begins to roll out. For developers, the testnet window is the moment to confirm that wallets, indexers, and tooling resolve correctly against the new foundation before real value moves across it.
