According to ME News, on September 8 (UTC+8), a British man using the pseudonym "Chris" successfully recovered 61 BTC after a 12-year legal pursuit from Intersango, a UK-based cryptocurrency exchange that ceased operations in 2014 (formerly known as Britcoin). In 2011, following a friend’s advice, Chris purchased 61 BTC at prices ranging from approximately £0.16 to £16 each and deposited them on the Intersango platform. After the platform shut down in 2014, his assets were frozen for 12 years. Eventually, upon his wife’s suggestion, he contacted CEL Solicitors, a law firm specializing in recovering crypto assets. The firm engaged in legal proceedings through U.S. courts, submitted the required documentation over four months, and ultimately helped Chris recover the BTC, now valued at approximately £3.3 million (around $4.4 million). Chris said his family was “stunned” upon learning he had regained BTC worth £3.3 million. He now checks his holdings on the relevant app about 20 times a day and says this experience has made him far more cautious about entrusting his crypto assets to exchange platforms. A UK man has reclaimed 61 BTC worth £3.3 million after a 12-year legal battle over frozen assets from the defunct Intersango exchange. The BTC, purchased in 2011 at £0.16 to £16 each, was recovered through a U.S. court process with CEL Solicitors. As BTC continues to be viewed as a hedge against inflation, the case underscores the importance of legal frameworks such as CFT in securing digital assets. The funds, now valued at $4.4 million, have been frozen since 2014.
