PANews, July 23: According to the Financial Times, after three years of cracking down on cryptocurrency tax evasion, HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has recovered over £8 million in unpaid taxes through settlements with hundreds of cryptocurrency investors. Data obtained via a Freedom of Information request shows that over the past two years, 502 cryptocurrency investors have reached disclosure and settlement agreements with HMRC regarding unpaid taxes. In the 2024/25 tax year, 280 individuals reached settlements with HMRC, paying a total of £3.5 million. In the 2025/26 tax year, the number of settlements decreased to 222, but the total amount increased to approximately £4.8 million.
