UK Chancellor Criticizes Nigel Farage’s Position on Bitcoin

ChainCatcher report: On Monday, UK Chancellor John Healey criticized Nigel Farage, leader of the Reform Party, for his stance on Bitcoin, calling him “Liz Truss with a Bitcoin account.” Healey stated that Farage wants the public to believe he represents the common people, but on economic issues, he is “Liz Truss with a Bitcoin account.” Liz Truss, Britain’s shortest-serving prime minister, faced widespread criticism for her 2022 mini-budget, which relied heavily on debt-fueled spending. Healey also said his governing Labour Party would help Britain lead by promoting fiscal discipline, good jobs, and a strong industrial base. Farage has long been a pro-crypto political figure; since 2020, he has primarily framed Bitcoin as an issue of personal freedom and opposed state control over money. He has said that being shut out by the UK private bank Coutts spurred his interest in digital assets. Last year, at the Bitcoin 2025 conference in Las Vegas, he pledged that if elected prime minister, he would cut capital gains taxes on crypto and compel the Bank of England to establish a Bitcoin reserve. Farage has faced criticism this year for accepting donations from crypto entrepreneurs, including technology entrepreneur and Tether investor Christopher Harborne and Ben Delo, co-founder of the now-defunct crypto exchange BitMEX. The Metropolitan Police have launched an investigation into reports that Reform violated rules on foreign donations; Reform denies any wrongdoing and says it will cooperate fully.
