ChainCatcher report: Swiss bank UBS has announced the launch of the Swiss Franc Stablecoin Sandbox pilot phase in collaboration with nine institutions, including PostFinance, Sygnum, Raiffeisen, Zurich Cantonal Bank, BCV, SIX, TWINT, and Swiss Stablecoin AG. The pilot explores ways to integrate blockchain technology with Swiss Franc stablecoins. The test is based on the CHFD stablecoin, which has been technically live in the Sandbox environment since the end of June and is pegged 1:1 to the Swiss Franc. The pilot will focus on use cases such as automated inter-institutional transactions, tokenized settlement of digital assets, and programmable payments—including reducing online marketplace fraud, improving fair access to event tickets, and enhancing the efficiency of public fund disbursements. The pilot is expected to run until the end of 2026. UBS stated that the Sandbox aims to accumulate technical, operational, and regulatory experience and does not indicate a decision to officially launch a Swiss Franc stablecoin.
