U.S. stocks declined on August 12, 2026, as investors awaited inflation data. The Nasdaq fell 0.6%, the Dow 0.34%, and the S&P 500 0.32%. On-chain data revealed mixed activity, with large technology stocks dragging the Nasdaq 100 lower. AI semiconductors edged higher but failed to meet expectations for $500 billion in funding. The storage sector defied the trend, with SK Hynix rising over 4%, SanDisk and Seagate up more than 2%, and Micron gaining 0.87%.

Huo Xing Finance reports that on August 12, according to BIT (bit.com) market data, markets remained cautious ahead of today’s CPI data release, with all three major U.S. stock indices closing lower: the Nasdaq fell 0.6%, the Dow Jones fell 0.34%, and the S&P 500 fell 0.32%. The S&P 500 has now recorded its fourth consecutive trading day with extremely narrow intraday volatility, reflecting a “calm market, price consolidation” pattern. Large technology stocks weakened for the second consecutive day, with the Magnificent Seven collectively dragging down the indices; the Nasdaq 100 closed just above its 50-day moving average. Within the AI sector, clear differentiation emerged: software infrastructure and optical networking saw sector rotation, while AI semiconductors edged higher but failed to meet market expectations for a $500 billion funding framework. Previously, NVIDIA partnered with six major Wall Street financial institutions—including Blackstone and Goldman Sachs—to establish a $500 billion funding platform for AI infrastructure development. However, the announcement failed to garner market enthusiasm and instead triggered concerns over “circular financing.” Google dropped 3.84%, recording its largest single-day decline in nearly six months. Oracle fell 3.71%, Cloudflare declined 1.20%, and Amazon slipped 2.09%. In contrast, the U.S. storage sector rose, with SK Hynitz gaining over 4%, SanDisk and Seagate Technology rising more than 2%, and Micron up 0.87%.
