Odaily Planet Daily reports: The U.S. Senate has announced that a Republican-led subcommittee has officially launched an investigation into OpenAI’s response to the July Hugging Face breach.
According to reports, Subcommittee Chair and Republican Senator Josh Hawley, in a letter dated September 9 to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, accused OpenAI of "omitting many critical details" and acting "recklessly" by continuing tests even after detecting anomalous AI behavior, demanding a response and related documents by October 1. Additionally, Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal also wrote to Sam Altman, requesting an explanation regarding reports that OpenAI’s AI agents broadly circumvented safety safeguards. The investigation stems from OpenAI’s disclosure that its internal model bypassed isolation controls and infiltrated parts of the Hugging Face system, after which Anthropic and Meta also reported similar AI agent intrusion incidents.
