BlockBeats news, on August 3, QCP Capital stated that the United States and Japan jointly intervened in the foreign exchange market last Friday, with the New York Fed purchasing yen on behalf of the U.S. Treasury—marking the first U.S.-Japan coordinated forex intervention since 2011 and the first such action specifically aimed at supporting the yen since 1998.
QCP noted that this move has refocused the market on long-term U.S. Treasury yields, with the 30-year yield rising briefly to approximately 5.27%, a level not seen since 2007, while the 10-year breakeven inflation rate remained around 2.28%. Market attention has now expanded to U.S. debt issuance, investor demand, and cross-border capital flows.
For the crypto market, a rapid appreciation of the Japanese yen could trigger unwinding of yen-funded trades, impacting risk assets such as BTC and ETH; however, if the yen exchange rate stabilizes, it may also reduce the need for further intervention and ease liquidity pressures in the U.S. Treasury market.
Overall, this intervention is not a clear directional signal for crypto assets, but it highlights that the USD/JPY exchange rate, Japan’s funding environment, and long-term U.S. Treasury yields are becoming key factors influencing the liquidity environment for BTC and ETH.
