On September 9, 2026, U.S. military forces struck five Iranian oil tankers following Iranian missile attacks on U.S. naval vessels in the Middle East. American ships sustained no damage, and no personnel were injured. In response, Iran warned oil tankers in Kuwaiti and Bahraini ports and launched 20 ballistic missiles at U.S. targets in Jordan. The conflict pushed Brent crude futures prices to a seven-month high, closing near $98 per barrel, with intraday prices reaching $100. WTI crude perpetual futures also rose to a six-month peak, closing near $93 per barrel.

BlockBeats news, on September 9, according to The Wall Street Journal, U.S. officials revealed that U.S. military forces launched a new strike on an Iranian oil tanker on Tuesday, directly in response to recent attacks by Tehran against U.S. warships in the Middle East.

The U.S. claims its forces destroyed five Iranian crude oil tankers. Previously, Iran’s Revolutionary Guard launched two ballistic missile attacks against a U.S. Navy warship over the past two days. The U.S. warship successfully evaded the attacks and continued its patrol duties in the regional waters, with no U.S. personnel injured.

Iran also warned that in response to U.S. military strikes on several Iranian tankers, it would issue alerts to all tankers docked at or anchored in ports and anchorage areas in Kuwait and Bahrain, demanding that crew members immediately evacuate the vessels, stating that these ships would become targets.

In the subsequent retaliatory actions, Iranian missiles struck U.S. targets within Jordan. Jordan stated that Iran launched 20 ballistic missiles at its territory.

Affected by these developments, Brent crude oil futures rose to their highest level since late July on Tuesday, closing near $98 per barrel and briefly approaching the $100 mark during trading. WTI crude oil futures closed near $93 per barrel, the highest level since early June.
