In accordance with PANews, the U.S. Department of Justice announced on December 9 that Evan Tangeman, a 22-year-old California resident, has pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit money laundering in a social engineering scam involving $263 million in cryptocurrency. Tangeman admitted to laundering over $3.5 million for the scheme, which stole approximately 4,100 BTC valued at $263 million at the time. The case, active from October 2023 to May 2025, involved a group of hackers, organizers, and fraudsters who targeted victims using stolen databases. Sentencing for Tangeman is scheduled for April 24, 2026. Previously, Kunal Mehta had also pleaded guilty in the case.
