TSMC’s 2nm capacity is now expected to reach 120,000 wafers per month by year-end, driven by strong orders from Apple, NVIDIA, AMD, Qualcomm, and MediaTek. Increased demand for AI and high-performance computing has boosted production by 10–20%. Five 2nm fabs will ramp up this year, with annual growth of 70% forecast for 2026–2028. Huo Xing Finance reports, according to the Economic Daily, major companies such as Apple, NVIDIA, AMD, Qualcomm, and MediaTek are accelerating their efforts in AI and high-performance computing, recently increasing orders for TSMC’s 2-nanometer family capacity by 10% to 20%. In response, TSMC has accelerated expansion of its 2-nanometer family production, progressing faster than expected. TSMC traditionally does not comment on customer information or market rumors. The market had initially estimated that TSMC’s monthly 2-nanometer family capacity by the end of this year would reach approximately 90,000 to 100,000 wafers, with continued double-digit growth expected by 2027, reaching 110,000 to 140,000 wafers. Industry sources indicate that due to strong customer demand, monthly capacity by the end of this year is expected to reach 120,000 wafers, bringing forward the original 2027 target. According to insiders, in response to demand from Apple and non-Apple customers, the speed and scale of new capacity ramp-up for the 2-nanometer family have set a new record, far exceeding the first-year production growth rate of the 3-nanometer family. TSMC Senior Vice President and Co-COO Dr. Hou Yongqing stated at this year’s North America Technology Forum: “In response to strong demand from AI and other sectors, this year will mark the first time five 2-nanometer fabs will simultaneously ramp up production—two in Hsinchu and three in Kaohsiung; first-year wafer output for the 2-nanometer node will increase by 45% compared to the first year of 3-nanometer production in 2023; and the compound annual growth rate for 2-nanometer capacity from 2026 to 2028 will reach 70%.” TSMC’s Nankang 3-nanometer facility is expected to reach nearly 180,000 wafers per month in Q4 this year, while three additional 3-nanometer fabs are under construction in Taiwan, Arizona, USA, and Japan. The second U.S. fab is scheduled to begin mass production in the second half of 2027.
