Huo Xing Cai Jing reports that on August 8, according to Axios, Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) is scaling back its cryptocurrency initiatives and withdrawing from two previously announced crypto-related deals with Crypto.com and Yorkville Acquisition Corp. TMTG’s interim CEO, Kevin McGurn, stated that the company aims to refocus on its media business and a potential merger with fusion energy company TAE, noting that the market for digital asset treasury companies has become saturated over the past year. Specifically, TMTG, Crypto.com, and Yorkville have jointly announced the termination of the Trump Media Group CRO Strategy initiative. The three parties said the decision was made based on “changes in the current market environment and shifts in business and stakeholder priorities.” They have also abandoned previously announced service agreements and certain digital asset product plans. Originally, the project aimed to create a publicly traded company centered around Crypto.com’s Cronos blockchain and CRO token, seeking to generate revenue by building a large CRO token reserve and becoming “the first and largest publicly traded CRO treasury company.” Additionally, TMTG and Crypto.com have scaled back plans to directly integrate prediction markets into the Truth Social platform, opting instead to promote Crypto.com’s prediction market products to Truth Social users through marketing partnerships. McGurn stated that TMTG believes it is better suited to function as a data and traffic distribution platform rather than operating underlying financial products. The number of clients for Truth Social’s data API service has now grown to approximately ten, primarily high-frequency trading firms that leverage social media data to inform algorithmic trading. The company also plans to explore licensing its data to major AI model developers and prediction market platforms in the future.
