Trump’s new tariffs on polysilicon and derivative products, implemented under Section 232, establish minimum prices of $21 per kg for polysilicon and $0.38 per watt for solar modules. On-chain data reveals increasing market volatility as traders respond to the policy change. A 15% ad valorem tariff will take effect on December 4, 2026, while the Fear & Greed Index reflects heightened uncertainty. The Department of Commerce will also launch a “Bring Back America” incentive program to support domestic production expansion by January 20, 2029.

BlockBeats report: On August 7, U.S. President Trump signed an executive order imposing minimum import prices and additional tariffs on imported polysilicon and its derivative products, pursuant to Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962, to support the U.S. domestic polysilicon, semiconductor, and solar supply chains.

The announcement sets minimum import prices at: $21 per kilogram for polysilicon; $100 per kilogram for polysilicon ingots and wafers; $0.22 per watt for solar cells; and $0.38 per watt for solar modules. Additionally, the United States will impose a 15% ad valorem tariff on polysilicon ingots and related derivative products listed in the annex of the announcement. These measures will take effect at 12:01 a.m. Eastern Time on December 4, 2026.

The announcement also authorizes the U.S. Department of Commerce to establish a "Reshoring to America" incentive program. Companies that commit to building, renovating, or expanding facilities for the production of polysilicon, silicon ingots, wafers, or solar cells in the United States, and commence construction before January 20, 2029, may apply for partial exemption from Section 232 tariffs on imported equipment and related products.
