Odaily Planet Daily report: On August 6 local time, U.S. President Trump signed a proclamation imposing a 15% tariff on imported polysilicon derivatives, a core raw material for semiconductors, to address the threat these imports pose to U.S. national security.
The announcement sets the minimum import price for polysilicon at $21 per kilogram and the minimum import price for polysilicon ingots and wafers at $100 per kilogram. This measure will take effect on December 4 at 0:01 Eastern Time.
In July last year, the U.S. Department of Commerce launched a Section 232 investigation under the Trade Expansion Act targeting polysilicon. Trump stated that polysilicon is a foundational material supporting the security of the U.S. semiconductor and solar power supply chains, and that this measure aims to rebuild the U.S. polysilicon industry.
