Tron now holds more USDT than Ethereum, with the stablecoin supply on the network reaching $94.27 billion as of late August 2026. On-chain data reveals Tron processed $2.1 trillion in USDT transfers during Q2 2026, with daily volumes often surpassing $20 billion. Tether has increasingly favored Tron for large-scale USDT minting since 2022, driven by the network’s low cost and high throughput. Ethereum news continues to highlight the shifting dynamics in stablecoin distribution.

Tron now hosts more USDT than Ethereum, a milestone that would have sounded absurd a few years ago. On-chain data shows the USDT supply on Tron climbed by $4 billion over the past month, reaching $94.27 billion and firmly pulling ahead of the network that once dominated stablecoin traffic.

The numbers behind the flip

By the end of Q2 2026, Tron was already hosting $87.9 billion in circulating USDT compared to Ethereum’s $78.7 billion, according to Messari’s State of TRON report. The gap has only widened since then.

USDT isn’t just a big part of Tron’s stablecoin ecosystem. It is basically the entire thing. The token accounts for 98.5% of all stablecoins on the network.

During Q2 alone, the network processed $2.1 trillion in USDT transfers. Daily USDT transfer volumes on Tron frequently exceed $20 billion, fueled by a user base that has grown past 400 million accounts as of late August. Millions of those accounts are active on any given day.

Why Tron keeps winning the USDT race

Tron’s transaction fees are a fraction of Ethereum’s, and its throughput is significantly higher. This cost advantage matters most for the users who move stablecoins most frequently: retail traders, remittance senders, and businesses operating in regions where dollar-denominated digital payments solve a real problem.

Tether itself has facilitated this migration. The company manages USDT issuance across multiple networks and has increasingly favored Tron for large-scale minting. This pattern has been building since at least 2022, when Tron first began intermittently leading Ethereum in new USDT mints.

What this means for the stablecoin landscape

Tron’s share of global USDT circulation has exceeded 50% at multiple points, meaning more than half of every Tether dollar in existence lives on its network.

There’s also a regulatory dimension worth watching. As governments worldwide tighten rules around stablecoin issuance and blockchain-based payments, the network that hosts the largest pool of USDT will inevitably draw more attention from regulators. Tron’s governance structure and its association with Justin Sun, who has faced legal scrutiny in multiple jurisdictions, could become a factor in how policymakers approach stablecoin oversight.
