According to The Block, Tom Lehman, co-founder of the Layer2 network Facet, has proposed incorporating EIP-8182 into Ethereum’s planned Hegota upgrade, set for late 2026. The proposal introduces protocol-level “Shielded Pools” to enable private transfers for ETH and ERC-20 tokens, utilizing a UTXO-based architecture with no admin keys, proxy contracts, or pause mechanisms, and verifying transactions using Groth16 zero-knowledge proofs. Lehman stated that a unified protocol-level shielded pool would address the fragmentation of anonymity sets caused by dispersed users across current privacy protocols, allowing shared use by all wallets and applications.
