Odaily Planet Daily report: Thailand’s Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has finalized the relevant regulations, permitting cryptocurrency exchange-traded funds (ETFs) to be listed and traded on the Thailand Stock Exchange, initially limited to Bitcoin and Ethereum. The regulations will take effect on October 16, 2026.
Initially, depositary receipts and other products linked to overseas cryptocurrency ETFs are not permitted. Thai securities firms are still prohibited from assisting retail investors in investing in overseas cryptocurrency ETFs; this restriction does not apply to institutional investors and ultra-high-net-worth individuals. Mutual funds and private funds may invest in cryptocurrency ETFs established in Thailand.
The related ETF must employ a passive investment strategy, tracking the price of the underlying cryptocurrency assets, and maintain an average net exposure of at least 80% of its net asset value to a single cryptocurrency over each fiscal year. Brokers may not provide margin financing, and the fund’s assets must be held by a digital asset custodian regulated by the SEC. (Cointelegraph)
