Tether has received support from 15 Bitcoin mining companies, including Bitmain, Bitdeer, Canaan, MicroBT, Foundry Digital, and F2Pool, to adopt its open-source Mining Development Kit (MDK). Each company will develop integration components to connect their systems to the shared software. Tether’s QVAC mining agent is already operational on the MDK, with MDK 1.0 expected by late 2026. The collaboration aims to enhance mining automation and efficiency. Support and resistance in the mining sector are increasingly shifting toward unified software solutions.
CoinDesk reports:

Tether has secured commitments from 15 Bitcoin mining companies, hardware manufacturers, and mining pools to support its open-source Mining Development Kit (MDK), while also expanding its mining automation initiatives for AI.

  • Tether states that 15 Bitcoin mining companies and industry organizations have committed to supporting its open-source MDK.
  • Participants include Bitmain, Bitdeer, Canaan, MicroBT, Foundry Digital, and F2Pool.
  • Each participant is expected to develop an integrated component to connect their mining system to the shared software.
  • According to the company, Tether's QVAC mining agent is already running on MDK.
  • The first stable release of MDK, version 1.0, is targeted for release by the end of 2026.

According to Tether’s announcement on October 24, participating companies will develop and maintain software connections that enable different mining rigs and services to operate through a unified system. The initiative covers major hardware manufacturers and mining pools, with the first stable software release planned for the end of 2026.

Tether has onboarded 15 Bitcoin mining companies onto its MDK platform.

Participants include Bitmain, Bitdeer, Canaan, MicroBT, Foundry Digital, F2Pool, Luxor Technology, and OCEAN. The group encompasses companies that manufacture mining equipment, operate mining farms, and manage mining pools used by miners to claim rewards.

Other participants include ACME Swisstech, Elektron Energy, EMCD, Heatbit, Proto, SpiderPool, and Stratum V2. Their involvement brings together different segments of the mining industry under a single development initiative.

Tether launched MDK in April, describing it as an open-source Bitcoin mining framework that allows developers to monitor devices and build applications without fully relying on software provided by individual manufacturers.

The latest announcement concerns the commitment to establish and maintain integrations. Tether has not stated that all 15 companies have completed connectivity or have deployed MDK in their mining operations.

The company has not disclosed the deployment scale, performance comparisons, or cost savings of the participants.

How will Tether's mining software operate?

Large Bitcoin mining operations typically run thousands of machines from various manufacturers. The equipment, cooling systems, and mining pools may each use different management software, requiring operators to switch between multiple platforms or develop custom integrations themselves.

MDK aims to address this issue through a software component called Workers. Each participating company will develop a Worker that converts information from its devices or services into a format recognizable by the MDK application.

This allows mine operators to use compatible monitoring and automation tools across different machines, without having to develop entirely new applications for each manufacturer.

This arrangement does not require companies to replace their existing equipment, nor does it mean giving up control over their own operating systems. Participants can independently choose which functions to make available through the shared interface.

Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino said that software will increasingly operate physical infrastructure directly, rather than merely providing relevant information.

“If each machine speaks a different language, this approach doesn’t scale,” Ardoino said, explaining why the company wants miners and equipment manufacturers to adopt a unified software interface.

This framework builds on Tether’s February decision to open-source its Mining OS, a system designed to manage mining hardware, energy usage, and operational data, while MDK provides developers with tools to build additional applications.

AI agents may also be managed through MDK for mining equipment.

Tether expects this universal interface to support AI applications for monitoring equipment, identifying faults, and adjusting operations based on changing conditions.

According to the company, its QVAC mining agent is already running directly on MDK. Tether describes this application as an example of AI software communicating with mining infrastructure without requiring individual connections for each system.

The announcement does not provide independent results detailing the extent of improvement in power consumption, mining output, or maintenance costs by this agent.

Ardoino further emphasized this announcement on X, calling the project "a mining development platform that leads all Bitcoin mining development platforms."

This mining initiative is part of Tether’s artificial intelligence infrastructure efforts. Recently, the company participated in a funding round for Tenstorrent that raised $1.5 billion, valuing the company at $6.2 billion.

Tether has not disclosed its individual investment amount in this chip company. Its AI development efforts also include software that can run models on personal devices without relying on centralized cloud services.

Tether aims to launch the stable version of MDK before December.

MDK was originally scheduled to reach version 0.11 during the Plan ₿ Forum in Lugano on October 23–24. Tether stated that its first stable version, 1.0, is still planned for release before the end of 2026.

Developers can now access the framework and begin integrating and building applications. The company has also opened participation to additional device manufacturers, mining pools, mining farm operators, and software developers.

The April release introduced a JavaScript development kit and React user interface library to support custom dashboards and device control. Tether stated that the software runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux, and is suitable for use cases ranging from home mining devices to large industrial facilities.
