Tether blacklisted 33+ TRON addresses holding $27 million in USDT on October 28, according to on-chain news from CoinRepublic. The largest address held $7.8 million at the time. Affected addresses can no longer transfer USDT, but TRX and other TRC-20 tokens remain unaffected. BlockSec data shows $505.9 million frozen across 328 TRON addresses in 30 days. CoinDCX also reported a $2.2 million USDT freeze linked to disputed outflows. Inflation data remains a key focus for stablecoin projects amid ongoing regulatory scrutiny.

Key Insights:

  • Tether’s blacklist makes stablecoin news as 33+ TRON wallets hold about $27M in USDT.
  • Tether’s USDT blacklist leaves TRX and other TRC-20 tokens generally unaffected.
  • BlockSec logged about $505.9M frozen across 328 TRON addresses over 30 days.

In stablecoin news, Tether has blacklisted at least 33 TRON addresses holding approximately $27 million in USDT on October 28. The largest individual address held around $7.8 million when flagged. However, Tether has not publicly disclosed why it blacklisted the addresses.

The reported $27 million is based on monitored wallet balances at the time TrustSniffer flagged the addresses. Those balances may differ from the amount frozen when Tether executed the restrictions.

Stablecoin News: USDT Restrictions on Blacklisted TRON Wallets

Tether USDT restrictions operate through the token’s smart contract, preventing blacklisted addresses from transferring their USDT.

The issuer uses centralized multisignature controls to invoke functions such as addBlackList. For affected Tron crypto wallets, the restriction does not automatically freeze native TRX or other TRC-20 tokens.

Tether can also request destroyBlackFunds to destroy USDT held by blacklisted addresses. BlockSec’s analysis recorded Tether using that function after freezing tokens across Ethereum and TRON.

However, in addition to stablecoin news, users can inspect the primary TRC-20 USDT contract and blacklist records through Tronscan.

CoinDCX Wallets Faced a $2.2M USDT Stablecoin Freeze

The latest stablecoin news follows an earlier blacklist involving wallets linked to disputed CoinDCX outflows. Blockchain-tracing firm AMLBot connected those wallets to roughly $16 million that left CoinDCX-linked addresses. AMLBot estimated that Tether froze about $2.2 million across the downstream wallets.

Contract event logs confirmed the blacklisting of three addresses AMLBot identified. Tronscan records showed approximately 1.385 million USDT frozen across those wallets on October 22. AMLBot attributed roughly $800,000 more to five other addresses.

In an October 23 update, it said two monitored wallets transferred assets onward before Tether froze three recipient addresses.

CoinDCX co-founder Sumit Gupta initially denied a new breach, saying the wallets had been compromised in July 2025. ZachXBT challenged that account and alleged that $15.8 million in user deposits remained unaccounted for.

ZachXBT said a liquidity provider had used the deposit address for 10 months after the compromise. He cited transfers to CoinDCX’s current hot wallet in April and May 2026.

CoinDCX subsequently acknowledged that users continued depositing into retired addresses and that its deposit-sweeping process had failed.

The exchange said it absorbed the resulting operational losses and credited affected users. It maintained that active central and user addresses remained unaffected.

Earlier Freeze Data Recorded $505.9M Across 328 TRON Addresses

In earlier stablecoin news, BlockSec’s USDT Freeze Tracker recorded more than $514 million frozen during a 30-day period.

The tracker counted 370 addresses across TRON and Ethereum during that reporting period. TRON accounted for 328 addresses holding $505.9 million, while 42 Ethereum addresses held $8.73 million.

BlockSec’s 2025 analysis counted 4,163 unique blacklisted addresses and $1.26 billion in frozen USDT across both networks.

Tether later destroyed approximately $698 million through destroyBlackFunds, while only 3.6% of blacklisted addresses were then removed from the blacklist. Separately, AMLBot estimated that Tether immobilized $3.3 billion across 7,268 addresses between 2023 and 2025.

In April, Tether froze $344 million across two TRON addresses linked to suspected sanctions evasion. The action involved the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control and law enforcement agencies. In February, Tether helped authorities seize more than $61 million in USDT linked to pig-butchering scams.
