Digital asset news broke today as Taurus connected its tokenization and custody platform to SWIFT’s blockchain ledger. Clients can now use tokenized bank deposits to make payments through existing infrastructure. Initial integrations are set to launch soon, with the first ledger transactions expected within weeks. SWIFT rolled out the ledger in July, with 17 banks across six continents preparing to test real-time transfers of tokenized deposits. Previously, Standard Chartered and HSBC completed the first live cross-border transaction on the ledger, linking their tokenized systems. The ledger acts as a coordination layer, enabling 24/7 cross-border payments and interbank transfers prior to final settlement. Blockchain developments underscore the expanding role of tokenized assets in global finance.

ChainCatcher report, according to Cointelegraph, digital asset infrastructure provider Taurus has integrated its tokenization and custody platform with SWIFT’s blockchain-based ledger. In its announcement, Taurus stated that its clients can use bank-issued tokenized deposits on the ledger via existing digital asset infrastructure to make payments. The first client integrations are expected to go live within days, with the first distributed ledger transactions completed through Taurus’s platform anticipated within weeks. SWIFT announced in July that the ledger is now available for initial use, with 17 banks from six continents preparing to pilot real-time transactions using tokenized deposits. Previously, Standard Chartered and HSBC completed the first real-time cross-border transaction via the ledger, connecting their respective independent tokenized deposit systems. SWIFT’s ledger acts as a coordination layer, enabling around-the-clock cross-border payments using tokenized deposits on participating banks’ balance sheets, while coordinating interbank transfers through existing mechanisms—including real-time gross settlement systems—prior to final settlement.
