Sweden's Tax Agency has issued a $56.5 million (5.4 billion SEK) capital gains tax demand to six crypto miners in Boden, alleging they concealed operations to fraudulently claim data center incentives. The investigation, part of a 2024–2026 audit, targets nine companies collectively for over $50 million. Hive Digital’s subsidiary, Bikupan Datacenter, is restructuring and contesting the ruling. Previous reports indicate that crypto mining has cost Sweden $100 million in tax revenue, as regulatory scrutiny under MiCA intensifies.

ChainThink reports that on September 8, according to Bitcoin.com, the Swedish Tax Authority issued tax reassessments and penalties totaling approximately $56.5 million (about 540 million Swedish kronor) to six cryptocurrency mining companies in Boden, accusing them of disguising mining operations through complex corporate structures to illegally claim data center tax incentives.

This enforcement action stems from a nationwide audit conducted between 2024 and 2026. A total of nine mining companies across the country were ordered to pay over $50 million in back taxes, with six of them located in Boden accounting for the majority.

Among them, Bikupan Datacenter, a subsidiary of Hive Digital, has initiated financial restructuring due to its inability to pay taxes and has filed an appeal against the tax ruling with the Supreme Administrative Court.

Previously, public broadcaster SVT Norrbotten found that cryptocurrency mining companies have collectively cost the Swedish government approximately $100 million in tax revenue.
