Superhuman chose to directly acquire the meeting transcription tool Fathom rather than continue developing it in-house. For this AI-powered productivity platform, meeting content is becoming an entry point for automated workflows, and the acquisition signals its intent to integrate meeting context more rapidly into its existing product ecosystem.
Acquisition background
Fathom, founded in 2020, has raised over $30 million in total funding. According to PitchBook data, its valuation in 2024 was $94 million. Its investors include Zoom Apps Fund, Telescope Partners, BoxOne Ventures, and Maven Ventures.
User base and product positioning
Fathom offers a free plan and has accumulated over 400,000 monthly active users. The company states that over one million people have recorded meetings to date. Superhuman believes that meeting recording tools do more than just preserve content—they also extract action items and context.
Superhuman will integrate meetings into the workflow.
Superhuman CEO Shishir Mehrotra said the company had internally tested similar products but ultimately determined that acquiring an established team was faster. Superhuman currently offers products for email, documents, calendar, databases, and an AI agent builder; after integrating Fathom, it will be able to further auto-generate emails, update data, schedule follow-up meetings, and enable AI agents to initiate subsequent tasks based on meeting content.
