Sui announced a major milestone with the successful completion of its first native post-quantum Devnet transaction. The network upgrade introduces ML-DSA-65 account signatures for direct post-quantum authorization. Sui also plans to deploy SLH-DSA-SHA2-128s for high-value vaults within Move smart contracts. Post-quantum vaults are scheduled for mainnet launch this year, with ML-DSA-65 accounts set to enter testnet by year-end and full certification expected in Q1 2027.

ChainCatcher report: Mysten Labs announced that the Sui network has completed its first native post-quantum Devnet transaction. This Devnet implementation introduces ML-DSA-65 account signing, enabling accounts to directly authorize transactions using this post-quantum signature scheme. ML-DSA-65 is part of the ML-DSA family defined by the U.S. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) FIPS 204 standard, and Sui has adopted it as the native protocol signature scheme for everyday accounts. Sui also plans to introduce SLH-DSA-SHA2-128s (FIPS 205), a hash-based scheme, for high-value vaults within Move smart contracts. These two schemes are based on lattice-based and hash-based mathematical hard problems respectively, ensuring that a weakness in one does not compromise the other. Since Sui keys are deterministically derived from seeds, users can migrate to post-quantum keys using their existing mnemonic phrases. Already live address aliases allow accounts to update their authorization keys without transferring assets. Post-quantum accounts are being rolled out in an optional, incremental manner, following the same deployment path as zkLogin and passkeys. Sui aims to launch post-quantum vaults on mainnet this year, with native ML-DSA-65 accounts targeting testnet deployment by year-end and native account authentication on mainnet targeted for Q1 2027—final timelines depend on independent audits and testnet feedback.
