The strategy bought again during Bitcoin's pullback.
The digital assets treasury company disclosed on Monday that it increased its holdings by over $22 million in Bitcoin last week, when the price fluctuated between approximately $80,000 and $84,000.
The latest purchase added 267 bitcoins to the Strategy, bringing its total holdings to approximately $64 billion. The company also spent approximately $193 million to repurchase shares of STRC, a preferred stock that pays regular dividends to investors. The board also approved an additional $1 billion for preferred stock repurchases, bringing the total repurchase authorization to $3 billion.
The latest purchase in the strategy came just one week after the previous buy of $21 million in Bitcoin. Since August, the company has purchased Bitcoin six times, continuing its aggressive accumulation pace.
At the time of this purchase, Bitcoin's price experienced sharp volatility, nearly erasing all of its gains over the past two months. In August, the cryptocurrency ended a prolonged decline, rising from around $63,000 to $77,000. By the end of September, Bitcoin surpassed $80,000 for the first time since May, briefly reaching a high of approximately $86,000.
Over the past week, a series of tensions have driven volatility in Bitcoin’s price. On Friday, attacks on shipping in the Strait of Hormuz sparked concerns over supply disruptions, causing oil prices to surge and intensifying inflation worries. On Monday, oil prices retreated after President Trump exempted certain sanctions and tariffs related to Russia, paving the way for more fuel to enter global markets.
Tech stocks also saw selling pressure as investors began questioning whether the AI boom can be sustained. The Nasdaq index fell more than 2% on Friday, but had recovered most of those losses by early Monday trading.
However, Strategy's latest purchase indicates that the company continues to increase its holdings despite market volatility, consistent with the long-standing preference of Executive Chairman Michael Saylor to hold Bitcoin. He stated in October last year: “You don’t sell your Bitcoin.”
However, earlier this year, Strategy briefly deviated from this stance, selling Bitcoin four times during the bear market, when Bitcoin’s price dropped to $58,000 in June.
