The bank is also working with Ripple and LMAX Group to allow RLUSD as collateral for trading. This could let institutions leverage holdings without moving tokens. In Brief:

  • Standard Chartered has launched RLUSD custody services through its regulated Dubai branch, providing institutional clients with secure digital asset storage.
  • Ripple, Standard Chartered, and LMAX Group plan to introduce RLUSD collateral arrangements, allowing institutions to support trading without transferring tokens.

Standard Chartered expands its institutional custody network across global financial markets, while the proposed RLUSD collateral integration requires regulatory approvals.

Standard Chartered has launched institutional custody services for Ripple’s RLUSD stablecoin on the XRP Ledger, expanding secure digital asset storage options. According to a press release from the bank, the service operates through its Dubai International Financial Centre branch, regulated by the Dubai Financial Services Authority.

The launch allows eligible institutions to safeguard RLUSD holdings through Standard Chartered’s established digital asset custody infrastructure. Institutional clients can access regulated storage services while maintaining security standards and managing risks associated with digital asset holdings.

Standard Chartered’s Global Head of Digital Assets, Waqar Chaudry, emphasized the growing institutional demand for secure custody and efficient collateral management. Chaudry explained that institutions require reliable systems for safeguarding assets, accessing liquidity, and managing exposure within trusted financial frameworks.

Standard Chartered Partners With Ripple and LMAX Group to Expand RLUSD Collateral Use

Beyond custody services, Standard Chartered is collaborating with Ripple and LMAX Group to expand RLUSD’s institutional trading applications. The companies plan to introduce RLUSD as eligible collateral within LMAX Group’s trading infrastructure through Standard Chartered’s collateral mirroring framework.

Under this arrangement, LMAX Group would recognize eligible RLUSD collateral without requiring institutions to transfer the underlying tokens directly. This approach would allow institutions to maintain custody arrangements while using their stablecoin holdings to support trading activities.

Ripple’s Senior Vice President of Stablecoins, Jack McDonald, highlighted RLUSD’s potential role in connecting institutional custody with trading infrastructure. McDonald explained that combining Ripple’s stablecoin with Standard Chartered’s custody capabilities could support institutional participation across global financial markets.

The proposed integration remains subject to final documentation, technical testing, regulatory requirements, and internal approvals across participating jurisdictions.

Standard Chartered Expands Institutional Digital Asset Custody Across Global Markets

Standard Chartered’s RLUSD launch builds on its existing digital asset custody operations across major international financial centers. Previously, the bank expanded its partnership with LMAX Group through custody arrangements covering Dubai and Luxembourg alongside prime brokerage activities.

Its institutional custody operations also extend across markets including the United Arab Emirates, Luxembourg, and Hong Kong. Additionally, Standard Chartered has outlined plans to expand digital asset custody services in Singapore, subject to regulatory requirements. The RLUSD custody service is operational for eligible institutions, while the proposed collateral integration awaits further approvals.
