Stablecoin payments firm dtcpay closed a $25M Series A round with SBI Group, a major project funding news in the crypto sector. The capital will boost network upgrade efforts, expand the merchant network, and enhance consumer tools via its mobile app. SBI’s backing deepens dtcpay’s institutional ties and fuels its global growth plans.

In Brief:

  • SBI Group joined dtcpay’s $25 million Series A, strengthening the stablecoin payment company’s funding base and institutional connections across Asia.
  • dtcpay will expand its merchant network, upgrade its enterprise portal, and introduce accessible consumer features through its mobile payments application.
  • Its point-of-sale service and Visa partnership support stablecoin spending, while expansion plans target additional regulated markets and financial institutions.

Stablecoin payments company dtcpay has completed its $25 million Series A round with strategic investment from Japan’s SBI Group. The Singapore-based company will use the capital to strengthen its products, merchant network, and cross-border payment infrastructure.

According to the announcement, SBI invested through SBI Ventures Asset and the SBI-NTU-Kyobo Digital Innovation Fund. Its involvement adds financial backing and industry connections from one of Japan’s established financial services groups.

Vertex Ventures Southeast Asia and India led the initial funding tranche announced in April. Moreover, Genedant Capital and existing investor Kwee Liong Tek also participated in the completed round.

SBI’s investment places dtcpay closer to financial institutions across Asia and other regulated markets. Consequently, the company expects these relationships to support its expansion beyond Singapore.

Founder and CEO Alice Liu explained that dtcpay raised the funding to transform cross-border money movement. Its plans extend beyond maintaining existing operations as demand increases for stablecoin-based settlement services.

The Series A completion follows dtcpay’s $16.5 million pre-Series A round from June 2023. That earlier financing supported the company’s development before its latest expansion strategy attracted additional institutional investors.

SBI Partnership Supports dtcpay’s Cross-Border Expansion Strategy

Founded in 2019, dtcpay connects stablecoins with traditional financial services through regulated payment infrastructure. Its platform allows businesses and individuals to accept, store, and transfer stablecoins across supported channels.

Traditional international payments can require several intermediaries and settlement periods lasting multiple days. Additionally, correspondent banking arrangements may introduce higher charges at different stages of each transfer.

dtcpay aims to reduce these difficulties by processing stablecoin transactions more efficiently and at lower costs. However, its expansion will require compliance with different regulatory standards across every new market.

The company will also improve its business portal for enterprise clients using the funding. Meanwhile, planned application updates will introduce more accessible features for consumers using its payment services.

Merchant Products Strengthen dtcpay’s Payment Network

Besides its digital payment platform, dtcpay operates a point-of-sale service for physical merchants. The system enables participating businesses to receive stablecoin payments directly from customers inside their stores.

dtcpay has also partnered with Visa to offer a stablecoin-to-fiat Visa Infinite card in Singapore. Cardholders can convert their stablecoin balances for purchases through Visa’s established merchant network.

Chairman Band Zhao identified scale, institutional partnerships, and entry into regulated markets as major priorities. Ultimately, SBI’s participation gives dtcpay greater support for building stablecoin payment services alongside traditional financial rails.
