ChainThink reports that on August 5, Spotify announced its Q2 2026 earnings, revealing that its paid subscriber base surpassed 300 million for the first time, with a net addition of 7 million subscribers for the quarter;
Monthly active users reached 777 million, a 12% year-over-year increase. Financial data shows that Spotify's Q2 revenue was €4.78 billion, up 14% year-over-year; net profit was €545 million, with gross margin rising to 33.4%.
Operating profit amounted to €655 million, above the market expectation of €639.2 million. However, the company’s third-quarter guidance was below some market expectations.
Spotify expects Q3 monthly active users at 788 million, below the analyst estimate of 793 million; operating profit is expected at €670 million, below the forecast of €677.8 million. The company's stock closed down 1.57% on Tuesday.
Spotify stated that the company is increasing its investments in marketing and AI, with operating expenses rising 19% year-over-year to €941 million in the second quarter.
On the AI front, Spotify has partnered with independent music licensing agency Merlin to extend AI remixing and AI cover features to over 30,000 independent labels, with plans to offer these tools as paid add-ons.
