AI + crypto news outlets report that SpaceX's Super Intelligence (SI) segment raked in $10.94 billion in Q3 2026, up from $2.28 billion a year earlier. Capital spending hit $40 billion in the first nine months, with the SI segment taking up 83% of SpaceX’s $48.1 billion total investment. Despite the heavy spending, the unit posted $431 million in operating income for the quarter. Crypto news platforms are closely tracking the rapid growth of AI-driven ventures in the space sector.

SpaceX's third-quarter results show that the Super Intelligence (SI) segment generated $10.94 billion in revenue through September 2026, compared with $2.28 billion a year earlier. The segment's capital spending reached $40 billion during the first nine months, about 3.7 times the segment's revenue. SI accounted for roughly 83% of SpaceX's $48.1 billion in total capital investment. Spending on the AI business is increasing faster than revenue.

The investment supports computing infrastructure, cloud services, AI models and software applications, including Grok. SpaceX reported nameplate computing capacity of 1.7 gigawatts at September's end, compared with 600 megawatts a year earlier. The infrastructure could enable further growth as SpaceX enters additional cloud services agreements and broadens the company's AI offerings. Capital spending creates assets intended for future operations, rather than constituting an operating loss or permanently lost money. The unresolved question is how soon the additional capacity can deliver returns.

The Connectivity segment, driven by Starlink, generated $2.37 billion in third-quarter operating income, about 85% of SpaceX's $2.79 billion total. However, the SI segment generated $431 million in operating income during the quarter. The Space segment posted an operating loss of $7 million.

Connectivity's quarterly revenue increased 69% from a year earlier to $5.25 billion. Connectivity's operating income nearly doubled from $1.19 billion in the year-earlier quarter. The consumer subscriber count reached 13.6 million, compared with 7.2 million in the year-earlier quarter. The results suggest that SpaceX combines a connectivity business producing substantial operating income now with an AI infrastructure business requiring enormous investment to pursue a much larger opportunity.

SpaceX says the company's strategy emphasizes capital efficiency and returns on invested capital. Additional computing capacity creates value only if customer demand, utilization and pricing ultimately justify the spending. The investor risk is whether the AI business can convert investment into lasting earnings without placing excessive pressure on SpaceX's wider financial flexibility. Starlink remains a major contributor to operating income, making Starlink's continued strength more consequential as SpaceX pursues the company's AI ambitions.
