Odaily Planet Daily reports, according to data from the Korea Exchange (KRX) and financial information provider Yonhap Infomax, South Korean retail investors have collectively net purchased 69.5 trillion KRW in ETFs since the beginning of 2026, accounting for approximately 63.2% of the 109.9 trillion KRW net inflow into the Korean securities market (KOSPI) during the same period. Despite the recent market correction in South Korean equities, retail investors continue to deploy capital through ETFs. On a quarterly basis, net purchases amounted to 33 trillion KRW in the first quarter (January to March) and 28.9 trillion KRW in the second quarter (April to June); in the third quarter, an additional over 1 trillion KRW was purchased this month. In terms of fund flows, over the past month (June 23 to July 23), covered call and monthly dividend ETFs collectively attracted net retail inflows of approximately 2 trillion KRW, while growth-oriented ETFs in sectors such as semiconductors, space technology, and AI experienced net outflows, indicating that investors are shifting from high-growth assets toward income-generating ETFs offering stable cash flows amid heightened market volatility.
