South Korea's BC Card has completed a stablecoin payment pilot for international users, enabling foreign customers to pay at local merchants using stablecoins. The project involved Wavebridge, Aaron Group, and Global Money Express, converting overseas stablecoins into digital prepaid cards. BC Card aims to prepare for future stablecoin regulation and evolving financial rules. Stablecoin regulation remains a key topic in South Korea, with the FSC and central bank still working on a unified approach. The pilot also aligns with broader efforts to Countering the Financing of Terrorism in digital payments. BC Card handles over 20% of domestic credit card transactions and serves 340,000 merchants.
