Huo Xing Finance reports that on August 5, the Korea Post Corporation of the Ministry of Science and ICT and the Korea Development Bank signed a business cooperation agreement at the KDB headquarters in Yeouido, Seoul, to jointly establish a 1 trillion KRW "AI Infrastructure Fund" dedicated to investing in next-generation AI data centers and energy infrastructure—key national future strategic industries. The two parties plan to collaboratively identify and invest in high-quality AI infrastructure projects, further expanding their financial collaboration. Park In-hwan, President of the Korea Post Corporation, stated: “The ability to securely ensure AI infrastructure such as data centers and power networks is becoming a defining factor of national competitiveness in this era. As an institution entrusted with managing the nation’s valuable assets, we will continue to expand infrastructure investments in future growth drivers based on stability and profitability.” This marks the first joint investment by the two institutions in approximately 20 years; they previously co-established an infrastructure fund in 2006 to invest in national projects such as Ulsan Science and Technology Institute, Incheon Airport Railway, Shinbundang Line, and power plants. This collaboration also aligns with the South Korean government’s policy to revitalize productive finance, leveraging public funds to mobilize private capital in core infrastructure sectors of the AI era. Previously, the government has increasingly prioritized AI and digital infrastructure through initiatives such as the “Won Internationalization Roadmap” and the “Sovereign AI” project; the joint investment by the Korea Post Corporation and the Korea Development Bank signals further public funding allocation toward this domain.
