According to Forklog, Sony Bank, a subsidiary of Sony Financial Group, plans to launch a U.S. dollar-backed stablecoin in 2026. The token will be used for payments related to video games, subscriptions, and anime content, targeting U.S. customers who account for about 30% of Sony's overseas entertainment sales. Sony Bank filed for a U.S. banking license in October and has partnered with stablecoin issuer Bastion to use its infrastructure for the project. The move aims to reduce payment processing costs compared to traditional methods like credit cards.
