Derived from Criptonoticias, Sony Bank, a subsidiary of Sony Financial Group, is preparing to launch a USD-anchored stablecoin in 2026. The initiative, in partnership with U.S. stablecoin issuer Bastion, aims to facilitate payments for video games, anime, and subscriptions, potentially replacing or complementing credit card transactions. Sony Bank has already applied for a U.S. banking license to manage the project and will use Bastion's infrastructure. The stablecoin will operate under the U.S. GENIUS Act and enter a market valued at over $306 billion, currently dominated by USDT and USDC. Meanwhile, Sony Financial Group, which includes Sony Bank, became an independent entity in October 2025 after a partial spin-off from Sony Group Corporation.
