ChainCatcher report, according to the Korea Economic Daily, SK Hynix is preparing a shareholder return plan that includes share repurchases and cash dividends, with a total scale expected to reach approximately 100 trillion Korean won (about $71 billion). The share repurchase component is projected to amount to 40 trillion Korean won (about $28.4 billion), representing more than 2% of the company’s total issued shares—a scale comparable to the proportion of new shares issued for its prior American Depositary Receipt (ADR) listing. Compared to last year’s total shareholder return of approximately 14.3 trillion Korean won (including about 2.1 trillion won in cash dividends and 12.2 trillion won in share cancellations), this new plan represents a roughly sevenfold increase. Behind SK Hynix’s large-scale return initiative is its leading position in the HBM (High Bandwidth Memory) market, a core component of AI infrastructure. The company forecasts annual revenue of approximately 345.6 trillion Korean won and an operating profit of about 266.4 trillion Korean won, representing year-over-year growth of roughly 256% and 464%, respectively. Previously, SK Hynix stated on its earnings call that HBM4 shipments will significantly ramp up in the second half of the year, alongside increased shipments of advanced-node DRAM, resulting in overall shipment volumes expected to exceed those of the first half. Market analysts believe that as demand for AI computing power continues to grow, SK Hynix’s improving profitability may drive a valuation rebound. HSBC previously noted that the market had priced in overly pessimistic expectations for SK Hynix’s earnings cycle; this shareholder return plan could be a key factor in improving its valuation.
