Senator Cynthia Lummis, chair of the Senate Banking Committee’s Digital Assets Subcommittee, will not seek re-election after her term ends in January 2027. She cited physical and mental exhaustion on X. Over the past few years, she has worked with Senator Kirsten Gillibrand to advance crypto legislation. The Senate Banking Committee is pushing a bill with input from both parties and industry stakeholders. The goal is to finalize the bill by early next year, with coordination needed with the Senate Agriculture Committee. The proposal will then face a full Senate vote and must align with the House version passed in summer. Progress on digital asset regulation remains a key focus.
