SemiAnalysis downgrades Google DeepMind, citing zero chance of regaining SOTA status. Key talent such as Jeff Dean and Quoc Le have departed, while over 20% of TPU shipments now go to Anthropic. The firm attributes this to Google’s slow, bureaucratic culture. Market sentiment shows the Fear & Greed Index at a low, with altcoins to watch gaining momentum as the AI sector shifts.

According to Beating Monitor, SemiAnalysis’s latest report directly concludes that Google DeepMind is no longer the most cutting-edge AI lab and has zero probability of regaining SOTA status in the future. It argues that DeepMind is simultaneously losing top talent and computing power: Jeff Dean, Sanjay Ghemawat, Quoc Le, and Oriol Vinyals have collectively left Google to start a new venture. Previously, Gemini co-lead Noam Shazeer had already moved to OpenAI, and Nobel laureate John Jumper joined Anthropic. Computing resources are also being heavily sold to competitors. SemiAnalysis estimates that between Q3 2026 and Q4 2027, more than 20% of TPU shipments will be sold directly to Anthropic, effectively locking away significant scarce computing power long-term for Gemini’s rivals. SemiAnalysis ultimately attributes the issue to Google’s “bureaucratic, slow, and strategically conservative” organizational culture. It even compares today’s Google to IBM and Intel: while technical capabilities remain strong and profitability is still high, the most difficult and risky technological race may no longer be the company’s top priority.
